So, i'm pretty sure that's the longest i've ever gone without updating my LJ. Stuff got pretty crazy in the beginning of May, as predicted. Convention stuff started, so i've been going a bit nuts mixing preparing convention materials with comic pages. I've also been doing a lot of school contracts and administrative contracts, so i've felt glued to my chair. Good thing the weather has been moody lately. Because having gorgeous days while being trapped on a chair is torture.

Last week, I went to TCAF and shared a table with the creators of The End, a sci-fi webcomic. The artist, Ran, gave me some wonderful fanart of Namesake :

As always, the Toronto Comic Arts Festival was intense and amazing. I met so many friends while I was there. I also got to meet one of my comic heroes Boulet (and gave him a copy of Namesake, which was a bit nerve-wrecking! Aaah!) I got less books then last time. Last time, I filled an entire suitcase. This time, I only got 12 books. Pretty tame. We also had a large gathering of comic artists at a Korean Barbecue which lead of of them to write the most hilarious restaurant review i've ever read.

Now that's i'm back, i'm still sharing my time between contracts, comic pages and convention preparations. I've done a couple of mini prints, both fanart and fairy tale stuff.

This piece is inspired by one of my favorite fairy tale figures : Baba Yaga, an old witch who lives in an enchanted forest, rides a mortar instead of a broom, lives in a house with chicken legs and usually has three magical sons. I have an obsession with witches in general, but something about this old Russian spell caster really captures my imagination. Basically, this is a young version of her. I always loved stories about people gradually turning into witches or monsters...

And of course, I drew some doctor Who.

And some Homestuck, although I don't know the story very well, I love the character designs :

Now i'm working on some pony prints and possibly something with Madoka.... Hummm.

Back to work!

Posted to both Lj and Dreamwidth.

Welcome back! I was wondering why you had fallen silent. I should have known con season was upon us! Are you going to get to have some happy fun time for your looming birthday? (Of course I haven't forgotten! Now I just need to do something about it.)

Con season is always pretty brutal :P

I don't think i'll celebrate that much, since i'm working so much, but I want to see Epic on my birthday!

Yeah, I'm not entirely sad I don't have time or money for them anymore. (I do miss the artist's alley a lot!) Although I'll be going to PAX for the first time this year. Imagine con-goers, but of the fanatic gamer type. If not for the love of video games, my sane self would flee!

I want to see Epic, too! If you see it before I get a chance, you'll have to let me know what you thought of it! Going to the movies is always a nice way to spend a birthday. :)

I'm on the other side of the table, so the feel is a bit different. Depending on the con, I still spend a lot (mostly the alternative comic ones). If you are ever interested in doing cons again, you should DEFINITELY get a table and try selling your plushies. I'm sure they would be a big hit at comic cons. If it works out well, it could be a nice way to make extra money :) I'll let you know if I ever do some on your coast - we could split a table.

PAX sounds pretty awesome, actually! If you like games. I'm not a huge gamer, but I can see the appeal!

I'll keep you posted on how good Epic is, although from what I can tell, it's Fergully with testosterone. But it's based on a pretty good book, so who knows? Could be great!

Conventions will take your time and your breath away ;) I suppose less books just means more time for doing art :P

Yay for an update!

I'm sad to say that I won't be at my 'home' con for this month. ;a; Since I'm in Bahrain for another three months, I don't know when my next con will be!

One day I will watch Dr. Who! @_@;
Isabelle Melançonsecondlina on May 29th, 2013 10:36 pm (UTC)
I think you'd like Who. It's got a kiddish sci-fi feel that is adorable. Also, the latest season has a lesbian space samurai couple who is awesome.

If it makes you feel better, I've been neglecting my LJ, too. A combination of insane work schedules and LJ spazzing out (again).

I'd love to visit a Canadian convention and come see you someday. I bet your booth is oodles of fun!

And that restaurant review was indeed hilarious! I loved the Silent Hill reference!

I know! this is like the best restaurant review i've ever read!

Maybe I could poke around an american con near you :)
