Livejournal, what the hell?
So for some reason, I wasn't really able to log into my account, and now I can, with the exact same password. No idea what happened there.

So what's new, what's new?! Well, I started watching that new anime every one is raving about : Attack on titan. It's basically a story about a bunch of giant killers trying to survive in a merciless world thanks to big walls. It's good. I'm not... hugely into it. Something about it bugs me. It might be the hero. But in any case, it's nice to see an action show that respects it's female protagonists. It does have a different flavour then most of the anime released this season, and i'm always happy with something different!

I'm also deliriously happy that the How to train your dragon 2 trailer is out because hot damn I  want some of the amazingly animated flying action. The internet was somewhat baffled that Hiccup seems to have grown in a way that can only be qualified as the Neville longbottom effect. Awkward to hotty or your money back. I look forward to more dragonesque adventures. Too bad I need to wait about a year for it.

I'm also casually taking advantage of the current sales to stock up on sweater for next winter. My workplace is really cold in the winter. I now have adorable sweater in all the colors of the rainbow. Aw yeah.

Been trying to practice digital coloring. Mostly, i've been trying to find a style. It took me a while to find a style with my inking, so now I guess i'm up to colors. I'm currently insanely jealous of people who master color. Darn you talented rainbow tamers. Darn you all.

I've also dusted off a couple of my old projects. It's pretty much the season to go back to poking things other then Namesake. I'm pretty excited about it.

Here are a couple of things I drew but could not post due to whatever ate (or attempted to eat) my account.

Bought some new pens in New York and used them to draw this. Basically, the pens are ballpoint pens, but really, really tiny. I always liked the harsh effect ballpoint had. It contrasts nicely with my usual style, which is really soft, due to the liquid ink and brushstrokes.

Avengers I cannot quit you.

This is basically my el supremo grande OTP.

Anywho, looking forward to adrawing this week, and maybe thinking of checking out Pacific Rim, the Evangelion of the West.

Been enjoying the sun a lot. Cuz you know, it's not snow. Yeeeah.

Ahh, I really like the ballpoint ink one! It looks fantastic. What kind of pens are they?

Are heard Pacific Rim is kind of bombing... interesting ballpoint pic, it definitely has a feel of its own. Your colors are coming alog fantastically as well. I'm doing the same learning to work with them as well

Awesome!

I know I've said this to you before, but you do tend to use thicker lines when drawing so less is more with the coloring, in my opinion. Your natural talent, after all, definitely appears to be that draftsmanship. Have you tried de-saturating your colors and/or lightening them up?

This artist, for example, doesn't have as thick as lines-- but she does share your affection for very, very detailed... details! And she lives for flats. Perhaps consider something similar? Gradients are there as well, which I would also recommend harnessing. Less is more; I just don't want to see those gorgeous lines overwhelmed!

As well, try Aku no Hana if you enjoyed Titan but feel something is missing. It's slow, but so powerful. The pacing lends to the mood, and the characters are haunting.

I feel like Pacific Rim was really lacking in substance. The dialogue was meh for me, there was really nothing shocking, nothing new for why the aliens existed, and the third arc seemed rushed. That said, I did enjoy Mako and a few other characters. A friend said to me it's to be enjoyed for what it is, and I'll certainly give it that much. It's best for a group, I reckon.

Oh, I love Margerite sauvage! But I never thought of trying to color like her since our styles are kinda different. Wow, thanks! Great advice!

Yeah, less definitely is more, but I don't know... the lineart is so good that my iffy coloring makes all my stuff uglier. I'll try to desaturate. See how that goes.

I wish I had some sort of feedback on what may have been happening with LJ, but I've been offline for the past few days myself. (Family campout. Kid wrangling. Stuff like that.) It's good that whatever was not behaving seems to be behaving now at least.

I'm glad you're having time to draw just whatever again. It's always nice to flex the creative muscles. I'm thinking I may need to take a small break from prototyping/finalizing plush things and refocus on drawing whatever I please again. It's been a while since I doodled for pleasure.

And MAN, this looks like a crazy summer of movies...or just crazy movies for summer. At the Lone Ranger movie I saw all sorts of CG-fest flicks waiting to bombard us all. Some look....really confusing. I'll admit when I saw the trailer for Pacific Rim, I had zero interest. The afterlife version of Men in Black (closest thing I can liken it to) looks like stupid fun, so I'm not sure if it's worth seeing, either. Then again, sometimes it's fun to see something just for the sake of getting out and enjoying time with friends.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Oh, I really do recommend Pacific Rim!

Admittedly I'm not that heavily into the mecha genre, but I really enjoyed the action scenes.

My favorite part is how the director build on the female lead. I loved that she did NOT simply serve as the 'love interest' for the male lead. She kicked just as much butt as the guys.

Yeah, it's great that for a new shounen anime, Attack on Titan has kickass female characters, aside from the female protagonist.

I am so stoked for How to Train Your Dragon 2! I still find it amazing that it's already getting a third sequel when we have a whole year until the second. I look forward to seeing Astrid back in action.

Now I hope you will consider watching Ever After High because I really would like to know your thoughts. It should be right up your alley and I'd love to see you draw from it.

I think Dragons was always planned as a trilogie, it's fun to see them bringing the whole "coming of age" plot in.

A few people have told me about Ever After High so far, I keep meaning to check it out. I should watch it while I draw. It seems really cute.

True. It's just so weird how different it is from the original books.

As I said before, I wish Ever After High was a full series. Two minutes totally does not count as an episode. :( On the bright side, it sure doesn't take that long to catch up!

Oh, it's only snippets? That's a really cute idea.
