History is still sexy.
For some reason, i'm really focusing on period costume art right now. I got a couple of new books with gorgeous dresses, and i'm just going nuts. I honestly think that if I wasn't doing comics i'd be in fashion/costume design because noting makes me as happy as designing clothing.

So far, June is disappointing. I was hoping to be able to run along in the grass under the warm, warm sun, but so far, i've been feeling like a cold, wet dog. It's rainy and brisk here in Montréal. I miss you, sunlight. Thankfully, strawberry season has started, so if I can't have sunlight, I can at least eat something that reminds me of it. Seasonal strawberries are much smaller and tastier then the big imported winter berries we get all year long. I adore it.

In other news, since all of facebook knows, may has well spill the beans.

Yup, i'm engaged. To "Link" as you folks know him, with whom i've shared 10 years of my life. He's a good fellah, and i'm happy about it. It's going to be super duper small and nerdy as far as weddings go for economical and personal reasons. But yay! Rejoicing is to be had! Whoop whoop!

Have some of the results of my historical costume obsession : A special Namesake update featuring Emma and Warrick in 1900 clothing and the cover of chapter 15 which just debuted recently, inspired by a pin-up girl seen in said design books :

Montréal and internet folks may have trouble catching me this week because i'm headed at my parents. But i'll be back! I'll be back for all of youuuuu!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Also, a small, nerdy wedding sounds like the most romantic thing ever!

Hey, congrats! :D

Seasonal strawberries are the only kind of strawberries I bother to eat, really. The rest may look nice at times, but you get next to no taste for an insane price. The seasonal ones, on the other hand... yummmm... ;)

Re: t
Seasonal ones may not be as pretty but man do they pack a taste punch!
Dianeichiban_victory on June 18th, 2013 08:28 am (UTC)
Yeah, I did see that on Facebook, and I wondered how long it would take you to explain yourself! When are you planning to wed? I'm all for a money-friendly wedding, myself. Still trying to figure out just what to do that won't break the bank, because money isn't flowing, and wedding stuff can be insanely expensive!

And bleh, we should have switched roles in school. I HAD to take fashion design classes because of the sewing thing, and I hated it! I have no passion for clothing design. I'm totally okay with the sewing aspect though, I would just need an inspired designer for that not fun (to me) aspect of clothing creation. ;)

I don't know if I would like to design mundane clothing though. Definitely love drawing costumes!

Probably in next April or something. I've honestly haven't really started poking at the planning of it.
Diane: not what you thinkichiban_victory on June 20th, 2013 11:36 pm (UTC)
Uh...mundane? Fashion industry? Those two don't go hand-in-hand! Think more like Project Runway, or any show like that that follows fashion designer would-be hopefuls. They're typically artsy-fartsy, and perhaps a bit "out there" as well. I personally lacked vision in designing clothing because I don't like designing clothing. I much prefer creating plush versions of familiar beasties of lore and legend. You really need to have an artistic eye and appreciation for cloth to make it in the industry...or run the other way, like I did.

Speaking of artsy-fartsy, I'm hoping you have something waiting for you when you get back to your apartment. ^_-

Well, I got a UPS notice right before I left, would said parcel contain wondrous things, perhaps? Although I don't remember you ever using ups, so it might be something else.

I have no idea how it is sent once it leaves the U.S. Tracking didn't help, as all it told me was that the package got to California, then disappeared, which means it was shipped across the border and the site can't track internationally...which still is strange to me considering we're of the same part of the continent. So, I have no idea, but it is probably mine! And I hope it is still full of wondrous things.

Oh golly, congratulations! A small, personal, geeky wedding sounds wonderful. I do hope it goes well when the time comes.

Ah, sorry about the weather you're having, but strawberries sound like a plus to me.

And you certainly do have a knack for design and fashion. Playing around with it is always fun.

I'm always more towards small anyways. You folks know how I hate being the center of attention.

Hooray for happy news! Congratulations! Have a great time with wedding planning the best kind of wedding-small and nerdy. Our daughter's wedding was like that, and everyone had fun.
Isabelle Melançonsecondlina on June 19th, 2013 02:52 am (UTC)
Did it have a nerdy theme?
Anna Nimmie Teeanna_nimmie_tee on June 19th, 2013 04:17 am (UTC)
It was Alice in Wonderland and a little bit gaming, since they essentially met through WOW. Guests were encouraged to wear mad hats. She made her bouquet and those of her bridesmaids. If you looked very closely at some of her own bouquet's flowers, the petals had tiny Alice in Wonderland characters. She also made the decorations, wedding cake topper couple, and some of the guest favors plus the men of the bridal party's boutonnieres. Neither of them are religious, but they had a non-denominational minster conduct a Celtic hand-fasting ceremony. One of the "groom's men" was a woman in a tux. Daughter had everything well, but flexibly planned, even down to having toys for the little kids play with.
